Trash or Treasure?

Well that all depended on what happened tonight. I purchased this Bissell Steam Cleaner with the express purpose of cleaning the carpets in our house to appeal to home buyers. Well, it didn't work on day 1. Tonight I was able to call Bissell's customer service line and with their trouble-shooting help we were able to find out why it wasn't working. Now it works and my carpets are cleaned! Let's just hope it "appeals to home buyers"! :)

Winter

So it's no mystery at this point, I like the snow much better now when it is melting than when it is covering the ground (or more accurately, the roads). But I do love the way it *looks* on the ground and in the trees and on plants. It can be so simple and yet so beautiful at the same time.

Here are some icycles dripping down from our bird feeder on the front porch. I love the look of icycles.

My sweet dog Buddy, home at last after his haircut and temporary stay at the groomer's! :) He's happy to be home and loves to romp around in the snow. He looks much better after he gets groomed!

And of course here is my baby playing in the snow with the doggies. He wasn't very camera friendly today, but he had fun nonetheless.... It was a good day!

What am I?

Well that's for you to figure out... I had no clue what to photograph so I decided I'd play a little game with you. Make your guesses and I'll post the answer tomorrow.

What does it look like? Is it a simple answer or part of something bigger? Ooh... I don't know. What do you think?

My Nemesis

So...anyone that's paid any attention to my neurotic facebook or invision posts today should know by now that I am afraid to leave my house. I've been home with Andy since Wednesday. At first it was because he is sick but now it's because of the snow. I got our Chevy truck stuck in a ditch (not because of the snow, but because I was *trying to be smart and turn around before going out too far in it) and now I am afraid to go anywhere at all. At the same time I am getting cabin fever sitting around the house and would actually LIKE to go to work! (I may deny this part later).

The snow doesn't look like much but thank God for this lovely Tennessee weather that likes to freeze up the roads before, during, and after our snow. Last year I got snowed in town
because my car failed to make it up a hill on the way home. I think maybe that was traumatizing enough to make me want to never drive in it again. So think warm thoughts, hopefully it will clear up a little bit this weekend. Then think warm thoughts for us to get stationed somewhere with less of a snow/ice problem! That'd be great. Kthxbai. (Don't you hate when people say that?)

Reflecting...

So I didn't have the best of days today and I had no idea what I wanted my subject to be for this challenge. I have never attempted to take a photo of myself in the mirror with my Nikon before and let me tell you, it was a pain in the ass. So this face is me reflecting on just how irritating it was trying to get a decent photo taken. Perhaps I am also reflecting on my shitty ass day. I am done reflecting now. Let's move on, shall we?

My Prom Dress

Seeing as my favorite color is purple and I have countless purple items in my house you would think today's theme of "Purple" would be easy to fullfill. It wasn't. At first I was trying to look around the yard, but flowers are not exactly in bloom. Then I decided I would get a photo of the birds stealing the dog food or the ones actually eating from the bird feeder. I have bluejays and cardinals, and blue and red together make purple right? :) Then I remembered my Prom dress. What could be more beautiful than that?

Every girl (ok, not every girl) dreams about her prom and plans thoroughly for that special night. The most important part? You would think the date would be important, but it's not. Nothing rivals the importance of choosing the correct Prom dress. I absolutely fell in love with mine, and it was a steal too. I looked gorgeous in it. Ah...memories. If only I could fit in it still. Unfortunately (or fortunately, as it were) it is a size 4 and I don't see myself getting back into that size for quite some time, if ever. But I can still drool over how beautiful my dress was. :)

Kids these days...

Well if you know me then you should know who this is. This is my obviously very sick child. He stayed home from daycare today because he has what the pediatrician assumed is rotavirus and was watched by my mother. Thanks Mom. You can tell he is just horrible spirits, right? The other photo is what happened to my living room when Andy was left to have at it. Lol.

How we ended up living in the middle of nowhere...

'Nuff said I think. Andrew and I fell in love with the view from our front yard. It is absolutely gorgeous at sunrise, and on a sunny day. **Sigh** I might miss this part, but I won't miss living here!

Everest...

Or at least it seems like it sometimes. (Cue the 2001: A Space Odyssey opening sequence as you pan to the top of the image). This is our quest, our goal, our ultimate triumph. Or at least it will be. The potty... I fear the journey will be long and perilous, but we will persevere. We will not give up. We will potty train!

My Buddy

It's on to day two, who shall my victim...err subject... be today? Well seeing as I made it through the whole day leaving my camera at home, I was left to improvise with what I have at home tonight. Here is my Buddy, aka Buddy the Tank, aka the mop (I haven't the faintest idea where this nickname could have come from). My sweet dog, ever the willing subject as long as there are treats involved... :)

Black Eyed Peas

Ahh.... Ringing in the New Year with what else but black eyed peas? This is for you honey. (((muah))) For anyone else that didn't catch the back story on these on facebook... My husband *insists that we eat these wretched things every year for good luck. (Though... I didn't eat any the year I met him - make what you want out of that). So of course he is away this year and he reminded me a few times to get them and I fully intended to make them and eat them this year in his honor. Well then New Years crept up on me and somehow I forgot. He was able to call this morning to wish us a happy New Years and of course he reminded me (again) to eat my black eyed peas. Wouldn't want to put a hex on the new year with all the changes we're about to go through. So after we hung up I scrambled out of the house to get to the store to buy some. Well of course they were sold out, so I bought field peas, which looked basically the same.
I figured it was better than nothing, right? So I did my regular grocery shopping, bought the field peas too, and came home prepared to cook them and eat. I decided before I started cooking them to check the cupboards just to make sure we didn't already have some. Well... we did. Crisis averted. I cooked the black eyed peas and had enough (in my opinion) for the both of us. He can't blame anything on me now. That was for you baby. I love you.

I'm up for the challenge, are you?

Welcome, welcome, and happy new year! This is the start of what I hope will be a regular tradition in my life. Today with the inspiration of a few good friends I am embarking on a personal challenge to make a photographic journal of the year. Using and developing my skills with my Nikon D50 I will keep this blog updated with photos and stories for all to see. From the start of the new year and my obligatory snack of black eyed peas to my husband's Air Force basic training graduation, our relocation and everything else that comes with it, I will keep you along for the journey. Please stay tuned. CC is always welcome! If you feel this is a challenge worth taking on then I encourage you to challenge yourself as well! :) Thank you for reading!
